Katy Hurt – The Kiss – Single Review

UK singer/songwriter Katy Hurt releases her single The Kiss today (26th August). Stream/Download here

The Kiss is the perfect country pop song that is instantly memorable, fun and catchy. As well as being incredibly current, The Kiss also has a sort of late nineties, early noughties vibe to it which we absolutely love!

Katy has an exceptionally beautiful voice that suits country music so well. Her tone is so divine and wonderfully melodic that I could listen to her voice A Capella all day long. That being said though, the melody of this song is so sweet and honeyed. The lyrics are joyful and uplifting bringing the entire song to a delightful happy vibe that is so infectious. I may have to start my mornings with this song to set my mood for the day.

In our opinion, The Kiss is on par with releases from artists such as Michelle Branch and Vanessa Carlton and Katy’s vocals also remind me ever so slightly of those artists as well as a dab of Kay Hanley from Letters to Cleo.

This song needs to be heard everywhere and is a song that would work so well on US country radio.

I just hope this song garners the attention it deserves. If you love it, get all those country stations playing it!

Katy Hurt is an artist to watch and we can’t wait to follow her journey for what we believe will be a very long and amazing career.

The story behind the song:

I’ve written a lot of songs that captured the darker moments, so it was about dang time that I let some light in. When Gab Zsapka and I sat down and started working on “The Kiss” it felt like sunshine. It comes from a place of genuine love and excitement and captures all the feelings that come with first time romance. It’s the true story of my first kiss with “the one” and I hope it makes you turn the radio up, dance around your room and sing into a hairbrush microphone like no-one is watching!
