There’s something so refreshing about Lukas Nelson’s musical stylings. His songs are mature, instrumentally flawless and they are simply good, easy listening tunes that are timeless.
His collaboration with Lainey Wilson for More than Friends is the perfect vocal match. Lainey is wonderfully country, and doesn’t even need to try – she is just authentic through and through. Nelson has a natural flair to being a brilliantly creative artist. His voice is exceptional and addictive. The maturity, smoothness and detail in his music both sonically and lyrically is always second to none and if this song is anything to go by, then the new album Sticks and Stones is going to be one heck of an album.
More than Friends is a wonderful toe tappin’ tune with elements of traditional country sounds blended with a modern twist. The collaboration is genius and fun and as Lainey states below, is a modern take on Dolly and Kenny! The perfect honky tonk dancin’ tune, this song will be played for years to come by many.
The new album Sticks and Stones is due for release on 14th July via 6ACE Records/Thirty Tigers (pre-save/pre-order here).
’ When I wrote “More Than Friends”, I had always envisioned it as a duet. I am a big fan of Lainey and she was at the top of my list of artists I wanted to sing with me on this track” shares Nelson. “When we sent her the song, I was thrilled to hear back that she loved it and wanted to do it”.
“‘More Than Friends’ is a modern day take on the musical, kindred spirits of icons like Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers” adds Wilson. “I’m so honored to be able to work with someone as talented as Lukas. His artistry and storytelling within music is unlike any other”.
