Country 2 Country Festival (C2C)

C2C Festival 2023: Megan McKenna – Why She Is a Must-See at This Years Event!

Whilst we love the main arena part of C2C, there is something very special about the daytime shows that surround the O2 Arena. In fact, many country fans attend the daytime shows solely as there is always such an amazing range of artists across the weekend.

C2C have been a great supporter of UK Country music since the first year back in 2013. Every year we have seen the list of UK acts grow and grow with so many household names being added – many due to fans campaigning for them so it’s great to know that C2C actually listen!

This year, we have been blown away by the number of well deserved UK acts on the line up. Kezia Gill for example is finally getting the recognition she deserves but one act we have personally been campaigning for over the years who also deserves as much recognition is Megan McKenna.

In the UK country world, we are huge advocates for the female singer. A beautiful voice and good tunes, we are there and Megan is an exceptional singer/songwriter with some dang good tunes that should definitely appeal to the C2C crowds.

Whilst Megan is no stranger to the UK scene, we haven’t had the pleasure of her playing at many country music festivals so this will be a wonderful opportunity for both Megan and country fans to get to know each other.

Megan released a mini docu-series back in 2017 (There’s Something About Megan) where she spent time in Nashville getting to know the scene and writing with well established songwriters such as Beth Nielsen Chapman and since then, Megan’s artistry has grown from strength to strength.

Since 2017, McKenna has released a debut album titled Story of Me, won Celebrity X Factor, released a series of self penned singles, played various festivals such as Cornbury, BST Hyde Park, Isle of Wight, toured with Michael Ball & Alfie Boe, Blue, Tom Jones and more.

Let’s delve back to her debut album Story of Me. The lead single for the album ‘High Heeled Shoes’ (which was featured on her docu-series There’s Something About Megan ) was written by the lovely Catherine McGrath alongside Norma Jean Martine and Nick Southwood. The rest of the album features songs co-written by Mckenna herself with writers such as Beth Nielsen Chapman ( Far Cry From Love), Amy Wadge (If You) and a cut of a Lauren Alaina penned track called Odds.

Megan proved her place in country music with this album! The tone in her voice is so beautiful and fits perfectly within the genre. She has a very emotive way to her vocals and delivers stunning ballads that will really dazzle the audience. McKenna also has a knack for pulling at the heartstrings within her lyrics in songs such as Sinking Boats, If You and This. If You is a favourite for us and winning single for X Factor This is a truly emotional power ballad which speaks of her journey to getting where she is today within the music industry.

Not only is Megan a Queen at ballads but she also has a wonderful range of upbeat tunes such as The Good, The Bad, The Bitch, Heart’s Letting Go and more! Her songs that have a real country twang that fans will love are Baby Talk, Confetti, Dear Mr Right, Single, DNA (think Texan Country), and Heart’s Letting Go!

Last year, Megan released a string of songs that were released every Friday including some of the songs mentioned above and tracks Stronger (co-written with Beth Nielsen Chapman and produced by UK artist Tim Prottey-Jones) Everytime ( also produced by Prottey-Jones) and covers including Defying Gravity and Sweet Caroline which are both produced by Prottey Jones. Megan has also written with UK sensation Twinnie and many more.

Tim Prottey- Jones say of working with Megan “Working with Megan has been such fun. We have a really great chemistry where I either make her laugh or I make her go all shy by giving her a compliment. She is unbelievably musical with a great ear for harmonies too. Our shared experience of country music and musical theatre has made this a great partnership.

C2C fans can expect Megan to be a lot of fun on stage as well as delivering emotional performances. From her own top-notch songs to engaging covers from artists such as Miley Cyrus, Kacey Musgraves, Britney Spears, Megan wows every crowd she has performed in front of.

Megan being added to the line up has been a long time coming. If you are a fan or not, we highly recommend checking out one of her sets. We promise she will be worth your while.
