Americana/Folk at its best, newly signed duo (to Decca) Michael and Michelle will undoubtedly be making waves as well as calming storms with their debut EP.
Calming The Storm does exactly as the title suggests by delivering a very calming melody with striking instrumentation. The blended vocals of Michael and Michelle are simply beautiful and wonderfully hypnotic. A fantastic introduction, we cannot wait to hear what their debut EP The Watching Silence brings.
The EP is due for release on May 13th and they will follow the release with their first public live show at London’s Omeara on June 6th.
About Michael and Michelle
The pair, to be known musically as Michael and Michelle, first met on the set of hit TV period drama Downton Abbey, and soon discovered their shared passion for music. This led to a casual jam, in between shooting scenes. Connecting immediately, both on voice and guitar, Micheal and Michelle started playing regularly as a duo. Now, six years later, they make it official with their first record deal and debut EP, ‘The Watching Silence’, due for release on 13th May this year. Their first ever official public show will shortly follow at Omeara London, on 6th June.
Growing up, Fox had always been in bands, cutting his teeth through a range of styles from indie to folktronica while writing his own songs. Dockery sang on various London stages before acting took the front seat.
The music Fox and Dockery have found together is both classic and utterly timeless: though more Nashville Americana than UK folk in melody and structure, their impressionistic songs are modern and immediate, free of pastiche, and are shot through with their own London realism.
Laura Monks and Tom Lewis, Co-Presidents of Decca Label Group, said of the uniquely brilliant combination: “We are thrilled to have these two multi-talented artists join the Decca family. They are a perfect match and we fell in love with their sound and chemistry as soon as we heard them. We know their global fanbase will be as excited to finally hear them on record as we are.”
Produced by Iain Grimble (Bears Den, Daughter and Catfish And The Bottlemen) the EP, which consists of four original songs, was recorded last year in Crouch End’s Church Studios in London. Throughout the record, the duo are joined by Chris Mass (Mumford and Sons) on percussion and Tommy Heap (Willy Mason) on piano and drums.
The busy pair will be juggling their music around their acting commitments and Michelle notes the juxtaposition in the approach needed for the two creative facets: “It’s a whole different set of skills and vulnerability. Acting tends to start with what’s already written on the page. Music can begin anywhere. It’s different and very freeing.” Michael adds, “I will always love acting but there is something about us, some part of our characters that we haven’t fully realised – and that’s happening now.”
‘The Watching Silence’ will be released on May 13th on Decca Records
