Review:
I have been a big fan of Ward Thomas since they started out in 2014 and I have both their Debut Album ‘From Where We Stand’ and their second Album ‘Cartwheels’.
I have been fortunate to see them live on several occasions, and last Summer I took our children to their first ever concert to see Ward Thomas and they are big fans now as well.
Catherine and Lizzy Ward Thomas have their 3rd Album ‘Restless Minds’ which is due out for release next Friday 8th February 2019. So, when Ward Thomas put a post on Twitter offering 8 fans (and their plus 1) a chance to win a listening room playback session of the new Album with them ahead of its release, I just had to retweet to enter the competition. I was over the moon when I found out I had won.
My wife couldn’t get the time off work and being a sensible parent, I couldn’t take the children out of school, so I invited my friend and fellow fan Stuart along.
I had never to been to one of these events before so I was unaware of what to expect and when we arrived at the venue ahead of schedule we went inside to find a lovely setting, a small intimate room with a 1920’s décor with Tea and cupcakes provided. The room was big enough to hold Ward Thomas, a Sony Music representative and the 16 lucky fans who won the competition.
In one corner of the room was a CD player with a chair either side of that. Catherine and Lizzy entered the room and sat down next to the CD player and introduced each song and told a bit of a background story to the song. There were 15 tracks in total, over 49 minutes long. There were a few songs that had already been released so us fans were aware of the lyrics and were tapping our feet miming along; I was trying not to sing out loud so I didn’t ruin the moment for the others, I think everyone was trying to do the same!
Catherine and Lizzy were happy to answer any questions and were keen to see our responses to each of the songs, needless to say they were all good. I really enjoyed track 10 ‘Changing’ and Catherine and Lizzy told me that song was written in about 1.5 hours. The talent these 2 have is amazing. For me in 1.5 hours at work i’m lucky if i’ve caught up on my emails and written a do to list haha.
If you follow Ward Thomas on social media you may have already heard of the following tracks, No Filter, Lie Like Me, It’s Not Just Me, Never Know, No Fooling Me and I Believe in You.
I really enjoyed listening to the Album (Restless Minds) and I can’t wait to get my copy to put on repeat. I am sure this is going to be a big hit for them.
I am very grateful that i got to experience this event and it was lovely to finally meet Catherine and Lizzy who are both not only talented but kind, friendly people who like to pay compliments, as they paid compliments to those that attended.
