Seth Ennis – Mabelle – Ep Review

Seth Ennis is one of my favourite new male artists in country music at the moment. His modern sound is very current and has a lot to love.

The Mabelle EP is a collection of enjoyable, catchy, well crafted tunes which are all radio friendly and single worthy. Seth’s music is very country pop focused with a clean cut sound which is fresh and very pleasing to the ear. If you enjoy artists such as Hunter Hayes, Dan + Shay and Rascal Flatts then you should love Seth.

Seth has a very delicate, friendly and soulful southern voice which has a seemingly effortless tone as it appears so natural and flawless.

Seth has a lot of like ability. Each song is inviting and there is a lot of effort in the melodies instrumentally. As Seth is a piano player, a lot of the songs are piano driven which makes them more appealing and more mature especially in the ballad Think and Drive where the melody is artistically elegant and the lyrics are relatable and cleverly placed.

The EP kicks off with Play It Cool which has a much more youthful pop sound than the rest of the EP and this is the song that reminds me very much of a blend of Hunter Hayes and Dan + Shay. The chorus is typically catchy and easy to sing a long to but it is a fun song with great vocals.

Fast Girl has a very soulful edge with a shot of R&B mixed in with its already pop country sound. This is probably the most infectious and memorable song off the EP and was written with the late Andrew Dorff. Seth says of the songwriter –

Fast Girl” – every time I sing this song for the rest of my life, I will think of Andrew Dorff looking down from heaven singing along with shades on, white wine in one hand, and a cigar in the other. Thanks for writing this one with me and Corey Crowder and so many other incredible songs. We miss you bad down here.

Woke Up In Nashville – This song was our introduction to Seth and his music. This song is sonically and lyrically beautiful with a very stunning piano hook to it and a smooth sweet- sounding melody. I love this song and I love how it starts with the line I Woke Up In Nashville and I enjoy hearing it live where he changes the lyrics to wherever he played that day.

Look At You is another R & B infused track which is a good song but just not as strong as the other tracks in my opinion. I find this song pretty easy going but just not as memorable.

Overall, I am liking Seth Ennis’ sound and I very much look forward to hearing an album some time soon. Seth will be returning to the UK in October to support Little Big Town following a highly successful live debut at this years C2C Festival where Seth won over a very large audience with his highly entertaining and impressive shows throughout the festival weekend.
