Just as you would expect from a song that is titled The Devil Below Me this song has a fairly dark country edge to it . It’s dark theme also has a hint of Johnny Cash in there. The song is deeply rooted in true old country fashion blended with americana and has a slow paced melody that instantly grabs you.
Josh McGovern’s baritone vocals are incredibly strong , broody and slightly haunting in this song and they flow into a more passionate and emotive vocal as the song escalates. His vocals are gritty with a soulful tone , rough around the edges in the best kind of way.
This song is really moving and powerful sonically and lyrically and the video follows the moving journey of a man addressing his past problems; capturing his guilt, repentance and heartbreak.
Based on this song alone, I will certainly be looking up more of Josh’ music.
