After deservedly winning the X Factor Celebrity, Megan McKenna re-releases her debut independent record Story of Me and this time it will be available across various platforms such as HMV and Amazon on CD. Let me tell you, THIS is an album worth getting whether you like country pop or pop or music in general.
We at BOON have been a fan of Megan since her show There’s Something About Megan which aired on ITVBe in 2017.The show saw Megan fly to Nashville to learn more about country music and the home of the genre as well as honing her skills in songwriting. During this trip, Megan wrote with the likes of Beth Nielsen Chapman and released two songs Far Cry From Love (that she wrote with Chapman) and High Heeled Shoes an upbeat number which was written by Catherine McGrath, Norma Jean Martine and Nick Southwood. The latter reached number one on the Itunes Chart.
Since the show Megan has been super busy and working extremely hard to make her dreams to become a singer/songwriter a reality. Forget about Megan the reality tv star and meet Megan the fantastic artist and songwriter. In a world where many singers make a career with their voice alone, Megan wanted to dig deeper and take a risk by not just singing but writing her own music too. Knowing that she wanted to write about her truth and already being a fan of the genre, Megan knew country music was where she wanted to be.
Megan released her debut album Story of Me independently last year via Absolute Records and co-wrote 5 of the ten tracks. The album includes previously mentioned Far Cry From Love and High Heeled Shoes as well as four tracks she wrote with Amy Wadge. The album proves Megans talent and place in country music with it’s emotive numbers that pull at the heartstrings both sonically and lyrically.
As well as writing and releasing music, Megan has been busy on the road. Playing two headline tours, where she took fellow British UK acts The Adelaides and Holloway Road with her, Megan also played some summer festivals last year such as Cornbury Festival and gracing the main stage to support Michael Bublé at BST Hyde Park.
In October this year, it was announced that Megan McKenna would be taking part in ITV’s X Factor Celebrity where celebrities compete for a chance to get a record deal. Whilst Megan already had an album out, it was an independent release so to win an official record deal would be a great platform to reach a wider audience and release more music and more. Within Megan’s first audition (at the home of Simon Cowell and in front of various industry experts, execs and fellow contestants) Megan shocked the nation and won the hearts of, well pretty much everyone with her voice and her original song Everything But You. Getting through to the live shows, Megan continued her streak of original material every week (apart from one) and received nothing but praise from the judges and the fans.
Showing she was a Queen of ballads, Megan sang powerful songs that came straight from the heart such as the breathtaking song This, the mesmerising Stronger, the stunning yet heartbreaking When I’m Crying and the gorgeous Half of My Heart. All of these as well as her cover of Christmas songs It Must Have Been Love and One More Sleep secured Megan 1st place in the competition where she claimed 46% of the final vote and she in fact topped the vote every week leading up to the final vote. Are we surprised? Of course not, we are just pleased that everyone gets to see and hear Megan the way we do.
One other thing that made Megan shine during her X Factor appearances was her personality. Previously being shamed for her past, Megan showed the nation that not only had she grown as a person but that she takes herself and her music seriously and this was something that Simon (Cowell) commented on almost every week.
Megans music has been topping the Itunes chart since X Factor and she is set to release her Story of Me album on CD more widely this Friday December 6th.
The ten-track album is now available to pre-order from https://listnin.co/StoryOfMe and will be stocked at both Amazon and HMV.
Having only been released via her website upon its first release, the CD sold out so quickly that it left many disappointed. Now, from Friday, everyone can have a copy of their very own.
Megan will be staying busy this Christmas. ‘This’ is among the leading contenders to claim this year’s Christmas #1, which she’ll support this week with various high profile TV and radio appearances. She’s also the face of high street clothing retailer Boux Avenue’s Christmas campaign.
We at BOON cannot express enough how pleased we are for Megan. A woman who has always treated us with so much respect and kindness, we can’t think of anyone more deserving of her current success and we look forward to an exciting career that is ahead of her.
