Fifteen year old Queeva may be young but her music and lyrics are mature and relatable.
Born in the United States, Queeva’s parents hail from Ireland and she gets to travel between the two countires often, learning about different cultures, different musical genres and different languages.
Gaelic is often spoken in their home. “When I was younger that was the only language I knew,” she says with a smile. “All my family members in Ireland are big country music fans. I’ve been exposed to country my whole life, especially the Celtic sounds that inspired the original roots of Appalachian country.”
Growing up with a love for country music, Queeva was singing Dolly Parton songs from three years old and competing in talent competitions from seven.
Queeva got her first break during a competition in L.A when an executive noticed her and connected her with Nashville-based singer/songwriter/producer Jamie O’Neal, known for such enduring country hits as “When I Think About Angels,” “There is No Arizona” and “Somebody’s Hero.” Under O’Neal’s tutelage Queeva found her voice as a songwriter and her new project is populated with songs that reflect the young singer’s positive spirit.
We asked Queeva to tell us a story behind one of her songs to which she chose Stand Out. The song is very pop infused and has a great message not just for youngsters but for everyone.
Artist : Queeva
Song: Stand Out
“I know in today’s world, it can be hard to be yourself and stand out. In school, and society, I can feel like I have to be like everyone else and blend in. With “Stand Out,” I wanted to send out the message of standing out and being yourself, because that is what everyone wants to see.
I think the way that I stand out is by making music and singing. It has always let me express how I felt and always been something that I love to do. From a young age, I have always wanted to pursue music. With this song, I wanted to tell people don’t be afraid to stand out. It can be difficult, but once you figure out who you are and what you want to do, it’s the best feeling. I would feel honored if my music could help someone else stand out or make them feel inspired to be themselves.”
Lyrics
It’s hard to dream with a mind full of doubt
So why don’t we give that a break
I know there’s something Unique we all have It’s gonna shine through
Today Just got to Keep moving, grooving, no losing Ai Yi Yi
Can’t stop it, don’t drop it, We got it
Stand out from the ordinary crowd
Never let em hold you down
Give it all you got and keep on reaching higher
Like a rocket on the ground
Light a fuse and make a sound
Blow it up and say I’m ready, ready I’m a stand out
I used to be so afraid to make noise
A wallflower just blending in
Comfortable in my own skin
Yea I just keep moving, grooving, no losing Ai Yi Yi
Can’t stop it, we got it Don’t drop it
Stand out from the ordinary crowd
Never let em hold you down
Give it all you got and keep on reaching higher
Like a rocket on the ground
Light a fuse and make a sound
Blow it up and say I’m ready, ready I’m a stand out
Be what we’re destined to be Standout Unlock your soul set it free
Standout Let’s show our colors Not cover up who we are We’re shining stars (And we)
Stand out from the ordinary crowd
Never let em hold you down
Give it all you got and keep on reaching higher
Like a rocket on the ground
Light a fuse and make a sound
Blow it up and say I’m ready, ready I’m a stand out
