If there was ever a band destined for greatness then it’s Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real. Being part of the BST Hyde Park line up under Steve Winwood, Santana and Eric Clapton is exactly where they should be as the high standards of not just their music but of their live shows belong with the high calibre of artists mentioned.
With a guitar heavy line up, Lukas Nelson & POTR more than catered for the Clapton, Winwood fans and proved their worth on the Great Oak Stage with their exceptional set which was at times heavy rock and at others quite country tinged but overall energetic, raw, powerful and simply awesome. Made for a festival environment, it won’t be long before this band are headlining festivals all over. These guys are exceptional musicians and deliver one hell of a steller live show.
Lukas’ vocals will stop anyone in their tracks and the bands well written songs are something to be admired and Lukas got the audience singing along in no time.
The BST audience are fans of music, and I think many of them will walk away talking about Lukas Nelson, many will now be buying his music and selling out his shows and as they visit the UK often, I hope this means he will see many of them at future shows.
Find Yourself is always a great moment during their live shows. Lukas goes all out during this track and puts all his vocal effort into the song which always receives a great reception from the crowd. Drawing more people in as their set continued, I noticed many audience members with Pearl Jam t shirts on so this band should be right up their street as hold similarities in some ways but Lukas has also worked with Eddie Vedder in the past and even covered Pearl Jams Just Breathe with his father Wille Nelson.
The more wild country rock sounding Set Me Up On A Cloud has such a fine melody and guitar riff that it sticks in your mind for a long while after and live, it was on another level.
Lukas Nelson & Promise of The Real have their self titled album out now which I highly recommend. This is a band not to ignore and should you ever get the opportunity to see them on a headline show, do it, do it whilst they still play intimate venues as this band are on the rise.
