Tim McGraw played the first ever C2C Festival and gave such an energetic and exciting performance that his return had been eagerly anticipated. Faith Hill is someone who has been on every UK fans list for years to come to the UK. When Tim and Faith announced their Soul 2 Soul tour in the US, most of us in the UK assumed we would have to travel overseas to see it, so when they announced that they were not only playing C2C but bringing their entire Soul 2 Soul tour with them, well, there were no words just squeals.
Tim & Faith played the Friday night of C2C at London’s O2 Arena. The staging had been brought forward to a T shape stage which was really exciting. The arena was full, the atmosphere was full of exciting cheers and went the lights went down, the crowd went absolutely wild.
Walking on stage from separate sides of the stage, Tim and Faith went straight into singing Aretha Franklin and George Michael’s I Knew You Were Waiting For Me.
Tim and Faith then went on to sing some of their individual hits but both sharing vocals. Tim’s I Like It, I Love It always gets an amazing reaction from the crowd as it is just one of the most funnest tracks to sing along to in a live setting. It’s a chanting, shouting chorus moment and everyone joins in.
The banter on stage between the two was comedic throughout the evening and they has great on stage chemistry which you would expect as a married couple but the way they complimented each other both vocally and performance wise was wonderful to see – it is no wonder that these two are one of country musics power couple.
As well as performing new music off their collaborative album The Rest Of Our Life they also performed separate segments of the show, one taking centre stage whilst the other departed from the stage. First up was Faith. This was a moment many of us had waited for as had not seen her live before. Faith started with her song Free but it was when she went on to her hit single which had great success in the UK This Kiss that absolutely everyone jumped out of their seat or sat waving their arms in a mad rush of excitement and energy. Speaking of energy, Faith was full of it, she ran around the stage with such a buzz and seemed genuinely happy and ecstatic to be there. Everyone sang along to This Kiss and Faith looked very emotional, she couldn’t believe it. I felt at times she thought Tim was the big draw but when she saw how many of the audience knew and loved her, she looked very tearful.
Faith then went on to sing Breathe and then tells the audience, whilst grabbing a guitar that next was her first every single Wild One.
After a couple more songs Tim returned to the stage to sing Angry All The Time which I loved. The sound had been slightly poor at the beginning of the show but all seemed to be fine now and the atmosphere had really lifted. Tim’s album Two Lanes of Freedom is my favourite Tim McGraw album so he could have performed anything off of the album and I would have been over the moon. The song he did sing was One of Those Nights and for me, I was instantly transported back to the first ever C2C Festival.
I love seeing Tim live, he commands his stage and just draws the crowd in with simply putting his hands up gesturing them to cheer louder. Everything Tim sang was spectacular I loved hearing Shotgun Rider as is such a great track but Humble and Kind brought a tear to my eye as did for many I am sure. The beautiful moment was when he held the microphone to the crowd and the entire arena sang a chorus, it was quite moving.
A little while later Faith returned to the stage and the two performed a powerfully gorgeous Speak to A Girl. The way they performed it really made you listen to the words and Faith sounded unbelievable. If you think Faith has a great voice, wait till you see her live as she really is something else and it made her fans realise just how much they have missed her.
What was amazing and unexpected was when the two went their separate ways to enter the crowd. First you see Faith amongst the fans singing Mississippi Girl and the camera footage was emotional to see everyone going crazy. We could hear Tim as he sang Something Like That but had no idea where he was and then all of a sudden he was in our section. We ran, I am not ashamed and it was amazing to be up so close to him.
I should also mention that the video backdrop showed images of them throughout the years including their children which really pulled at heartstrings in a warm way. It was a trip down memory lane for many and a beautiful moment.
To close, the power couple sang their hit I Need You and they simply sat on stage opposite each other on chairs just like the video of the song and there was just one light shone on them making the rest of the stage black to.
Tim and Faith played for about two hours and it was absolutely sensational and a once in a lifetime opportunity for me and many others. Tim and Faith blew the arena away and showed that country music is timeless, the song, the artist will go on for ever and this is one of many reasons why I love this genre so much.
What a show, what a moment, what a highlight, what an experience we will never forget.
