Dan + Shay – Live in Cambridge Review *****

Concert: Dan + Shay

Date: 7:30pm on Wednesday 23rd January 2019
Location: Cambridge Junction

Review:

WOW! what a way to start 2019 with this concert. Dan + Shay have set the standards high. A 5 star performance!

Doors opened at 7pm and Devin Dawson was on stage at 7:30pm for a 35 minutes opening slot.

I saw Devin in November when he was an opening Act for Thomas Rhett with his full band. Back then he got some mixed reviews, However Devin is trying his best at winning over the UK audience with his commitment to return just a few months later.

This time around Devin just brought 2 Guitarists with him and his vocals where much clearer to hear, and personally I really enjoyed his performance and I think he gained a few more fans last night. Devin is full of talent and if you give his debut Album ‘Dark Horse’ a good listen then you will feel that there is a lot more to come.

Devin’s Setlist:

War Paint
Placebo
Symptoms
Asking for a friend
Secondhand Hurt
All on me
Dark Horse.

Dan + Shay, the country duo comprising of Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney, released their 3rd Album in 2018 and won CMT Music Awards for ‘Duo Video Of The Year’ with ‘Tequila’. They are currently nominated for two Grammy Awards, Best Country Duo Group Performance  and Best Country Song.

If you are a follower of Dan + Shay on social media you would have seen that they are loving the UK Fans on this tour. I have caught them at the tail end of this UK tour having performed in the last week at Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester, Bristol

On Wednesday 23rd January they performed at Cambridge before thier last show at O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, London.

Joining Dan + Shay on their UK tour is their band made up of:
Justin Richards – guitar
Dustin Hook – bass
Andrew Cook – drums
Izaac Burkhart – guitar, keys.

Dan + Shay came onto stage at about 8:20 pm and played for 1 hour 30 minutes covering songs from all of their 3 Albums , ‘Where it All Began’ (2014), ‘Obsessed’ (2016), ‘Dan + Shay’ (2018).

As soon as Dan + Shay came onto the stage there was a massive cheer from the rowdy crowd that did not stop all night.

I have to say as great as Dan + Shay were the audience certainly contributed to making it a special night, I don’t think I have been a concert before where the crowd was this loud. It was deafening at times. As I looked around all I could see were big smiles 😊

Dan’s energy was off the scales, and that energy transferred into the crowd who were singing along to all the words to every single song, and when they asked the crowd to sing along they just got louder and louder.

Dan + Shay are really enjoying this tour, and if you follow them on social media you can see clips of their UK tour and how much they love the crowd and vice versa.

During the set one fan at the front who has been to a number of shows on this tour produced the Vinyl record ‘DAN + SHAY’ to which they had to take a moment to appreciate it as they had not seen it themselves before. Being the gentlemen that they are they signed the Vinyl cover and gave it back to the fan.

After the show despite the freezing cold temperatures outside they shared their time to have photos for those die hard fans who waited so long in the cold.

I believe that every gig on their tour has been a sell out and going on this performance, the next time they come to the UK they will have to either play at bigger venues or do more dates and more venues, because their fan base is just going to get bigger and bigger.

I have to say that is the best £20 I have ever spent and I feel like I’ve robbed both Acts.
