Jasmine Rae – If He Calls: A Tribute to Karl Broadie – Single Review

I was all set to review Jasmine Rae’s entire current album Heartbeat but then I listened to one of her latest tracks If He Calls: A Tribute to Karl Broadie and just could not wait to write about her.

If He Calls – is a tribute to the much loved singer/songwriter Karl Broadie, who sadly lost his battle with cancer. This track was released in April this year.

Information below in bold is taken from http://www.jasminerae.com

Originally titled ‘If She Calls’, was a song Karl Broadie wrote and recorded it on his mini-album One Constellation in 2011.

The revenue received by Jasmine and her label ABC Music for the single release of the track will go directly to Karl’s family support fund.

‘If He Calls’ was produced by ARIA and Golden Guitar winning producer Matt Fell, with Beau Golden on piano and mastering by Michael Carpenter. It follows Jasmine’s performance of the song at the recent Concert For Karl tribute show in Sydney.

This special release is just a small part of a much broader and ongoing effort by the artistic community to celebrate Karl Broadie’s life and music, while assisting his family in their time of need.

Donations to the family can also be made at: http://www.kbsupportfund.com.

If He Calls’ will also appear on an upcoming tribute album, celebrating Karl Broadie’s songs and featuring some of Australia’s most celebrated artists.

“This is such a sad time, but I’m so proud to be one of the many artists celebrating Karl’s beautiful music and spirit. I hope we’ve done this song justice and it rings true to the incredible musicality and heart of its writer,” says Jasmine Rae.

Jasmine Rae is one of Australia’s most loved singer/songwriters. She is a three-time ARIA Awards nominee and is the only female solo artist to ever win the prestigious CMC Oz Artist of the Year Award, as voted by Australian Music Fans.

It is so easy to see why Jasmine Rae is such an admired singer in Australia and she really should be recognised all over the world as is truly an artist that has so much talent to offer the world. That being said, she is no stranger to the country artist industry as has recorded with Joe Nichols and Kellie Pickler as well as performing on Arena shows with Brooks & Dunn and Alan Jackson.

Jasmine also won the  2013 CMA International Artist of the Year award and was named a finalist in the 2016 International Songwriting Competition.

From listening to the first verse of If He CallsJasmine Rae had me. Wow! Just wow. It has been a long time since I have heard a song like this with a voice like Jasmines. I can only think of artists such as Sarah McLaughlin when I am trying to make comparisons.

If He Calls is a sensational and emotionally beautiful ballad. The melodies simplicity delivers such a heart wrenching and powerful sound that it captivates you instantly. I can imagine this song being the centre piece of a Broadway musical as the emotion and passion in Jasmine’s voice is that of a stage performer who carries a whole audience in just one song. The chorus is a real tear-jerker and it is one of those songs you wish to listen to in silence and is almost criminal to sing a long to.

I have already had this song on repeat and suggest you give it a listen, especially if you love female singers. I look forward to listening to her album a few more times, so far, it is right up my street with wonderful tracks, including a cover of Brandy Clark’ Hold My Hand.  I will be writing about it soon.
