The beauty of music is that a song can be moulded into your own experiences, your own personal stories and in the case of Chloe Stroll’s song You’re OK, your own grief. Music is a healer and whether your grief is recent or years in the past, this song connects so deeply that it can help heal old wounds.
You’re OK is an acoustic gem that excels in its simplicity. Grief doesn’t need a big production, and this song’s gentle melody offers comfort in the same way the lyrics do. Is it bad to say that this song has helped me with the loss of my cat last week? It has also helped with being prepared for my fathers memorial next week and whilst I don’t like to make my reviews about my personal experiences, I felt that it was allowed for this one.
You’re OK was written by Stroll about the loss of her Grandmother. A close relationship, she turned to the writers room to express her grief but to also self heal and what she created was a beautiful coping tool for anyone going through it!
“You’re OK’ was a big healing song for me. I wrote it about my grandmother. She and I were very, very close, and the only thing that really gave me comfort in that moment was knowing that she was OK.”
Stroll continues,“My grandma was spectacular. She would always sit in this big yellow chair in her bedroom and wait for us to come and visit her…You could never call enough, you could never see her enough.” She goes on to explain, “So I painted the picture that I remembered, of her sitting in the chair… I painted that picture, I wanted to capture the sadness, but also turn it into something that felt healing for me. ‘At least one of us is OK.’”
Hailing from Montreal, Canada, Stroll has been writing music since she was just seven years old. Dreaming of being a singer/songwriter, Stroll’s plans changed as they do for many, when she approached the teenage years. Chloe attended a Broadway boot camp before shifting her focus, perhaps as a plan B to studying business and fashion, not a bad thing to have experience in seeing that the pair are essential to the music industry. Stroll’s heart, however, always called her back to the writing room, to music and she made the brave but great decision to concentrate on it full time.
Chloe Stroll released her debut single Run, in 2023 and has released various tracks since. Stroll continues to create more music which we will hopefully see later this year.
