Texan born Angel White became a fast favourite for us on the C2C Festival line up before the event had even begun! A singer/songwriter who describes his music as ‘Western Soul’ White’s music is a breath of fresh air and having him be part of C2C felt like a wonderful treat! With only a handful of songs out so far, White is already making a massive impact on the music industry with songs such as the emotive and heart string pulling ‘Red Blanket’ and more! With an album on the way, Angel White is set for great things with his music and we can’t wait to watch his career grow and grow!
I had just got back from seeing Angel White’s set on The Big Entrance Stage at Country 2 Country Festival so was pretty excited to meet him and have a chat.
When you have interviews at festivals it can be rushed at times as schedules change on both ends, you’re running from one place to another or you are completely booked up back to back. That was pretty much my day at C2C Festival this year. My calendar was so packed I wondered how I was going to do it all and at times, sacrifices had to be made which was a real shame. This can also lead to some interviews feeling a bit rushed or feeling a bit overwhelmed no matter how much of a professional head you have on.
Despite it being a very busy day on Saturday, Angel White made all the stress disappear. A packed ‘artist lounge’ where various interviews were taking place at the same time, when you are in the company of Angel White, you switch off all the loud noises around you and in your head.
With Angel, it was nice to relax into an informal conversation. He had that magic to him – an easy going attitude, a man who makes you feel so at ease that you can just chat for hours. Angel was just so excited and grateful to be here in the UK and completely in awe of the audiences that he was attracting. Once you hear one note of his music, it isn’t hard to see why he pulled in such big crowds.
White had spent the week in London prior to the festival and explained on stage that he had fallen in love with the city before he had even performed in front of anyone! Bringing that up again and asking how his time here has been he said;
“It’s been fantastic , I have been here since Monday! Exactly, two days in I was like “yep! I love it!” I would consider myself a creature of habit so we are at a spot near Borough Market, London Bridge, which is great! I have got to walk around and the people are great and just doing their own thing. Borough Market, it’s wonderful, we have been going pretty much every morning.
I have been loving the preservation of buildings, the architecture, it’s everywhere! Places that have been here since they have been here and that takes a lot of care.”

Speaking of how most US artists who come over here love the old buildings too as in America, the buildings aren’t anywhere close in age and that artists in particular love the churches. White agreed.
“Exactly! That’s my favourite thing here too, the Churches, they are just breathtaking. The craftsmanship is insane! I adapt creating a space like that to my music and being able to craft something that can stand the test of time no matter what!”
It’s safe to say that White’s music will certainly stand the test of time. The authenticity behind his musical stylings will never fade out! Many fans would agree with that, and his music would appeal to fans of various genres, music lovers as a whole. His sets at C2C Festival were certainly proof of that! I explained how I caught his set at The Big Entrance Stage and how the large audience were completely captivated.
“It was fantastic! I come in here, the only thing that I was ever told was that they are going to love you! The way that they treat music over here is different when it comes to the reception. Before I even started playing people already came up to have photos with me. The curiosity level of wanting to discover things here is top notch and as an artist that’s the biggest thing you could ask for.”
Telling him how we are fiercely loyal here in the UK and great listeners, that we appreciate the music and that if we are silent, it should never be mistaken for boredom, it’s attentiveness.
“Yes! That’s amazing and it makes us want to come back again and again”
One of the songs that have been having such a huge impact on fans at C2C Festival is his song and single ‘Red Blanket’. Of the song he says;
“My grandmother made me a blanket when I was 6. It has my name on it and I have had it since then, still have it! She passed away a couple of years ago! She had a wonderful life, like truly! She was rejoiced and celebrated beyond. She had such an impact on everyone. Keepsakes keep people alive no matter. She’s still with me no matter what! I wrote this song right after her funeral, like driving home!”
We talked about how Grandparents can have a different place in your heart to your parents! Losing them can almost make it difficult for large families to ever spend so much time together again!
“Yep! For sure! They are always the ones that bring everything and everyone together!”
Every detail in Angel White’s music stands out! As someone who notices every detail of a song if it’s exceptional, I had to mention it because it shows intention, attention to detail and a real passion to make a song that means something rather than make a song that may be a potential hit! Asking about that intention and his involvement in the production process White replied;
“Very intentional. Every piece is there for a reason! Yeah absolutely! I keep as many hands as I can in the production. Whether that be knowing someone who can play something or orchestrating it! I like to make sure that I am fully in it!”

Again talking about how his work is such timeless music! I had to bring up his forthcoming album ‘Ghost of The West’ (which I am very excited about) and see if we were allowed to hear anything about it yet!
“It will be a two volume album! First one will come out in May and I will have another single drop at the end of this month called Outlaw! March 29th that song will be out and then Volume one in May! Volume two maybe in the fall. ‘Ghost of the West’ is just the idea of the native cowboy, Spanish cowboy, Black cowboy being washed from history. They are kind of the ghosts of the west. A lot of people don’t see, at least media wise, maybe now more prominent for sure. They were washed away or at least tried to be washed away but they are the OG’s of it. My grandfather, his dad, my dad, all cowboys and have been raising horses for the last 50 years. It is making a stand and keeping it alive for the most part.”
That legacy of his family lives on as Angel raises horses too and often talks about them on socials. He has seven horses, asking their names (they weren’t named after the seven dwarves) but were called…
“Toca, Coco, Moonstar, Sapphire, Sizza, Trinity and Wanda.”
I think I definitely got some of those horse names wrong. White has such an interesting life! As well as being a highly gifted musician and raising horses he has also dabbled in beekeeping.
“I did it for three years. Eventually I’d like to start it back up again but I’m settling down! It’s really fun and I got stung a lot! Even the suit on you get stung a lot! I got used to it!”
Before the festivities at C2C Festival begun, Angel White played a show at Camden’s Koko.
“It was a great time, the guy who runs the place was talking about a residency! To do a residency here would be fantastic!”
That’s something we can definitely agree on and I am sure many more would too. We don’t tend to have country artists do residencies over here and we certainly should start. I would love that! Not only would it make it easier for fans to see his shows rather than be restricted to one date but it would allow new and curious music fans to discover his music. As I have said so many times in this article, his music is timeless, it really is! It brings so many genres together such as country, soul (western soul) blues, rock and Jazz. The artistry behind his music is ear catching and the kind of music that you not only love on record but the kind of music that creates an entirely different picture in a live setting! I would describe it as landscape art in music. The songs create scenery in your mind and you can feel the music as much as you can hear it!
Angel White will hopefully return to the UK soon and not just for this potential residency but we would love to see him at The Long Road Festival. We discussed that too and he fell in love with the idea of The Front Porch Stage.
Let’s make it happen!!!
