Lakefest – Sunday Review – Music, Family Fun, Arts and Crafts and More!

Back in full swing for another day of fun festivities, we arrived again at around midday! Whilst a fair few people packed up camp ready to go home, the day seemed much busier than it was on Saturday! Perhaps that was down to McFly Headlining? We certainly saw many people in their merchandise.

The kids gave us no choice but to start the day off in The Willow Gardens to play on the Hungry Hippo! What an excellent idea to have that. So simple yet affective and entertaining for hours on end. I need to invest in one! Who needs to pay hundreds for a Birthday party when I can just get one of those for the garden, haha!

One of the things I loved about The Willow Gardens was the peaceful and specially designated area for mothers to breastfeed, change nappies and have a sit down in a very comfy tent. Midwives on hand, these lovely ladies were great for advice and comfort. This was such a great idea and something that I have never seen at a festival before. I would have found this very beneficial just one year ago!

Quickly on to the main stage with chairs and food from The Beefy Boys, we set up shop for the first act of the day and one of the only Folk/Americana acts across the weekend Sound of The Sirens.

These lovely girls were a great start for what was the last day of a four day festival! Incredible vocals from both Abbe Martin & Hannah Wood, Sound of The Sirens could have easily been a punk folk band with those voices. Exceptional in every way, the band drew a massive crowd and drew in more and more the more they sang. Great stage presence, the girls had us chuckling at Status Toe (if you were there you will know) and had us relating to their all nighter on The Waltzers story!

Every song they played was flawless and they would have undoubtedly gained a new fanbase! In fact, we heard various people comment on their set in a very positive way!

The girls brought on Hannah’s husband who is known by the artist name Samantics. He was fantastic!

After Sound of The Sirens we ventured off to C-HR Summer Escapade. A large portacabin if you will, it was set up as a travel agency. Families can go in and chat with a Travel Agent who asks you what your number one holiday destination is and then she gives you a key in relation to your answer. If you chose a beach themed holiday, you were given a key to try some Fish and Chip themed Doughnuts. If you Chose Disneyland for example (as my kids did) you got to try Chocolate Kebabs. This was a fun experience and we got to sit on their swinging chairs too which were sat around a table. A very unique and fun experience!

Watching the BMX’ers was a really exciting moment for the kids. They were in awe of the skill of the riders.

Off to do more fairground attractions, the kids rode the little rides where they sat on a double decker bus and then went on the trampoline.

Next up, we decided to all do some mushrooms. What a beautiful thing to do with two small children. Wait a minute…. I mean make wooden mushrooms at the Mushroom Craft Van. This was a really sweet activity that caught our eye on Saturday so we had to go back and do it. A very reasonable cost of £5 each. We sandpapered our Mushroom Heads into shape and then gave them to the staff to blowtorch it slightly to give it a more darker look and then he attached it onto a copper stalk and wooden base.

Blowing in the wind and my hair looking more and more like Russell Brands, we brought some hats at one of the stalls. My son chose a Pokemon one and I a sequinned.

Setting up shop again but this time for the evening in our chairs, we took turns to try the food vendors. Naan Bread, Samosas and Onion Bhaji’s for me, the kids had wood fired pizza.

A lovely and charming evening sat right by the Big Wheel which stood opposite the main stage, we watched Inspiral Carpets and then the headliners McFly. Never having been a fan before, McFly were brilliant live and gave a very memorable set with their hit songs and album tracks which were arguably better making me want to check out their back catalogue when I got home!

Another night over, an end to our first ever Lakefest, we had such a great time that we really hope to come back next year!

Lakefest is one of those festivals which is not just about the music but about everything it has to offer. As we have mentioned, we spent most of our time at The Willow Gardens but we would like to check out a bit more next year. The Cheshire Cat for example. That was on my list and we never got around to it. We would like to try more activities and do more sessions such as Yoga! I would also be keen to check out the VIP area as they have exclusive performances and different food vendors and more importantly POSH LOO’S!!!! We would definitely be keen on writing about the exclusive performances though as would likely have more of an acoustic feel which we are huge fans of!

Thank you Lakefest, we had a great time and look forward to next year’s line up announcement! Can we hint at a bit of country? Bands that would go down a treat would be The Teskey Brothers, Brothers Osborne, Maren Morris and more! We could list people all day!
