10 Best Merle Haggard Covers – Celebrating what would have been his 80th Birthday (April 6th)

Country music icon Merle Haggard would have celebrated his 80th birthday this month(April 6th), and A&E celebrated his life with the country music community with a powerful tribute special which aired this week. In the span of his career, Haggard released 70 albums, earned 38 no.1 hits and was honoured with a GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award.

In addition to his impressive accolades, Merle continues to inspire country music artists with his legacy and perseverance to this day. To honor the legendary artist, we’ve rounded up a few of our favorite covers of the timeless hits from the Mighty Merle.

One of the tracks covered is by Amy Jack Amy’s debut album, Introducing Amy Jack was produced entirely by Merle Haggard whom she considered a lifelong friend, and this was one of the last projects Merle was a part of before his passing. Listen to her album in the above link.
