BOON favourite Courtney Marie Andrews
was in the midst of a major US tour with Swedish folk artist Kristian Matsson aka Tallest Man On Earth when the world of live music ground to a halt.
Last weekend the pair were in session with Sam Evian and Hannah Cohen from a log cabin in the Catskill Mountains in New York State.
In an informal setting the quartet meandered wonderfully through various songs by Neil Young (plenty of songs by Neil Young who obviously is a favourite with the collective), Bob Dylan, Lucinda Williams and Joni Mitchell together with their own material.
Highlights included Andrews and Mattson delivering a beautiful version of Blaze Foley’s If I Could Only Fly, Cohen with a gorgeous Neil Young’s Motion Pictures and Evian’s gentle Unknown Legend.
Towards the end of the set Andrews played her classic track Near You. Wonderful.
This is a splendid way to while away a couple of hours, listening to these talented musicians.
This is not a concert, this is not technically perfect, this is not rehearsed or polished. There are pauses and chit chat between the numbers. This is a group of friends whiling away the time, playing some musical gems.
At time of writing the session had 13,000 views and approaching five hundred “likes”. We’re not quite sure why there is a solitary “dislike” – whoever did that evidently pressed the wrong button.
