Sweden based, Australian singer-songwriter Hazlett (Mitchell Hazlett Lewis) music has reached over a quarter billion streams, he an impressive following of 116K+ on TikTok, and has secured various placements on Spotify such as, New Music Friday, Acoustic Chill, Autumn Acoustics, Fresh Folk, Folk & Friends, Roots Rising, You’re Favorite Coffeehouse, Coffee + Chill, Café Croissant. Hazlett has also had his music feature on several TV shows such as Grey’s Anatomy.
Hazlett’s music is described as Indie-Folk. Much like other artists on the BST Hyde Park line up supporting Noah Kahan, Hazlett’s music is like a chill out soundtrack, it’s beautifully hypnotic and makes you really feel each note played and every word sung.
Today, Hazlett performed on the Great Oak Stage. Starting with the song Please Don’t Be, Hazlett wowed his audience within the first few moments of playing. Hazlett seems, shy, certainly humble and he shared his gratitude to the Hyde Park crowd and stated it was the biggest stage that he had ever played. His ambient, folk music translated beautifully in the scenery of Hyde Park.
Playing a generous set list of songs, highlights came from the songs Shiver and Blue Jean. Hazlett has such hypnotic vocals and the sounds of the pedal steel guitar live was breathtaking.
“Sorry about the sad songs, it’s all I’ve got” Hazlett addressed. Nobody minded though as his audience were completely in awe of his talent.
This may be the biggest show Hazlett has done, but he can hopefully look forward to playing shows like this even more as his popularity is bound to grow. He did close with a more upbeat number however. The track, titled Doing My Best is a wonderfully catchy number and the song was the perfect send off.
Hazlett is an exceptional performer. No gimmicks, no massive production, just his vocals and his fantastic band. His set left us completely mesmerised.
