Oscar and Grammy Award winning Singer/Songwriter/Producer Finneas is classed as one of finest in his field and it isn’t hard to see why. It isn’t just his work with his sister Billie Eilish that defines him as such, but his solo work is really quite remarkable. A mix of pop, Jazz and more, Finneas artistry is second to none. If you’re a Disney Pixar fan like me, then you’ll likely know that Finneas is also part of the genius behind the boy band 4 Town in Turning Red. More recently, Finneas has teamed up with Ashe to create their duo The Favors.
Playing The Great Oak stage, Finneas was an artist that was clearly going to be one of the more popular acts on the billing supporting Noah Kahan at BST Hyde Park.
Kicking things off with Lotus Eater, the up-beat track had the Hyde Park crowd dancing and cheering. The stage looked handsome with its many musical instruments and their players. Finneas waltzed around the Great Oak stage with ease and confidence and you could see he felt at home amidst his fanbase. Playing songs across his catalogue such as Cleats, 2001, Break My Heart Again and I Lost a Friend, the live versions were exceptional. The opening riff to Cleats for example is just so infectious and brings out the best mood in you. It’s a song you want to skip around to, dance to and is absolutely magnificent in an outdoor setting with the sun shining. You can’t quite appreciate the creativity behind some songs nor the true essence of a musical instrument until you hear them in a live setting and this was certainly the case for Finneas’ set. He is quite simply a showman and he can add being a master of this craft along with his ever growing list.

A surprise came from when Finneas took to the piano to perform The Favors track The Little Mess You Made. The audience erupted which had Finneas laughing happily between lines and then all of a sudden the back drop reading FINNEAS in big letters changed to The Favors. Even louder cheers, the audience reached peak volume when Ashe casually walked on stage to join her duo member. Stunning in her gown and vocals, the moment was incredibly special. Staying for two more songs which included The Hudson and Till Forever Falls Apart, the atmosphere was on a new high and although a newly formed band in March this year, the fans knew all the words. An exciting new band, we cannot wait for their debut album. Ashe leaving the stage, Finneas continued for two more songs Let’s Fall In Love For The Night and closer For Cryin’ Out Loud.
Finneas and his band gave us a masterclass of live music. His music is uplifting and bursting with the kind of joyful energy that only someone truly gifted can create. This is what live music is all about, creating those emotional moments and projecting them to the people watching- it was a beautiful feeling.
