Gabrielle Aplin first burst into the mainstream music scene when she released a cover of Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s The Power Of Love. The song was featured in the John Lewis Christmas advert in 2012. Since then, Aplin saw much success with her debut album English Rain. Since then, she has released three more albums Light Up the Dark (2015), Dear Happy (2020)
and Phosphorescent (2023) respectively.

This year Gabrielle Aplin released her EP Northern Star. The EP is a stunning collection of 4 acoustic driven tracks. One track, Little Light features her real life partner and fellow musician Alfie Hudson-Taylor.

Currently on tour, it was incredibly exciting to catch Aplin’s set supporting Zach Bryan at BST Hyde Park. Gracing the Great Oak Stage, for me personally, this was a very special moment as I hadn’t had the opportunity to see her live before.

Looking fabulous in a Mr Men/ Little Miss dress, the audience to see Aplin was large. Playing a variety of songs across her career including the sensational Please Don’t Say You Love Me, which was a firm favourite amongst the crowd. A breathtakingly beautiful voice with a soothing tone, Aplin’s audience were mesmerised throughout.

Aplin also performed a handful of country infused music which was very well received. Ending with what she described a “bop after a few ballads” the song Miss You made for a great close to what was an exceptionally good performance overall. Humble, sweet and witty, Gabrielle Aplin’s set was over way too soon. I would certainly take the time to catch a full show one day. We did miss not having her version of The Power of Love on the set list but all the more reason to see her live again.
