Angel White: Ghost of The West: The Album – A Soulful Tribute to The American West – Album Review

It’s difficult not to be instantly captivated by the hook of White’s intro to the album from the first track Outlaw. The blues riff throughout is flawlessly composed and whilst a simple beat, it gives Ghost of The West a stand out moment early on. A steady and well thought out track list, the album plays like a film soundtrack. White’s craftsmanship bleeds within every aspect of each song commanding you to deeply listen and truly absorb and appreciate the entire scope of the album.

From soft, soulful ballads to more rockier, edgier sounds, there isn’t a bad song on this album, in fact, each track holds its own unique appeal making them all difficult to choose a favourite from. Red Blanket, Villain and 2733, all previously released songs, lean more towards catchy and radio ready tunes, but that is far from being a negative thing. The instrumentation used to provide breathtaking melodies tell stories on their own but blended with White’s incredibly soothing, raw, smoky vocals, it’s easy to feel the words even if it isn’t your own experience. The beauty of music is to find your own narrative within the lyrics but Angel White tells his stories in such a powerfully emotive and vulnerable way that he has the rare ability to make you feel his experiences vicariously.

The close of the album is perfect in its beautiful ballad Wild Painted Horses. The song leaves you feeling calm yet lingering in a pensive mood. It enables you to reflect on the album in its entirety inviting you to listen to it all again!

Angel White’s artistry has a beautiful signature western sound that is somewhat cinematic and most certainly timeless. Music that is gentle to the ears and deeply gratifying, Ghost of The West is a soulful, vulnerable and authentic debut from White and places him, in our opinion, as one of the most exciting and refreshing artists to emerge in music for a while.

Angel White is an artist that is likely to garner respect from fellow musicians as well as fans. We are excited to watch his career grow from strength to strength.
