Having just spent a week camping in France for the start of our DIY Glamping trials, we found that one of the only things that brought the comfort of our experience down a little were our cheap air beds. After a week we had bad backs and all week we struggled to get down to sleep in them and to get up out from them. Something had to change!!! After a lot of research (and considering cost factors) we stumbled across Yawn! Immediately it was the photo that attracted us. A self inflating mattress with a headboard that is the height of a regular bed? Surely this is going to be an extremely expensive product? We were incredibly surprised to find it retailed at £89.99 which really isn’t that bad at all! After using it, it’s definitely a fantastic investment and we regret not getting it before our week of camping/DIY Glamping.
The Yawn King Mattress is from high street tv – See it here. This mattress is self inflated and you can use a battery operated pump if you don’t have an electric hook up on camping trips.
Now as our aim of these articles is to DIY Glamp, we wanted to make our experience as close to Glamping packages as possible! A lot of glamping packages include a proper bed which of course is very attractive but if you are doing DIY Glamping, then you don’t particularly want to pack up a proper bed frame and mattress that take up all the room in your car and are incredibly difficult to transport. Yawn Air Bed is one of the closest things we could find to that real bed experience for glamping!
Yawn is a game changer!!! The mattress really is high enough off the ground to make you feel that you are in a real bed! It’s a luxury to be able to just climb into bed as usual and to climb back out of it! When you think of those inconvenient trips to camping bathrooms in the middle of the night, it makes it so much easier to be able to just climb out without stumbling. Because the bed is higher up, you don’t feel as cold and certainly don’t feel the condensation. We took our own duvets and pillows to make it have that home feel even more! Because of the headboard, our pillows didn’t fall off and we had plenty of space.
The airbed comes with a headboard and you can purchase a purpose fit sheet for it too which goes around the headboard! It’s firm and comfortable (we would also recommended a mattress topper if you want extra comfort). Paired with our 5m bell tent from Bell Tent Sussex, this item fit perfectly and it looks so good!
After the bed was inflated and placed, we still had plenty of space in our Bell Tent for more beds, tables and possibly chairs! We are definitely considering two single mattresses from Yawn for our children and/or the Sofa bed! Having the sofa bed as well as the King Air bed will make our DIY Glamping that bit more luxurious!
Our kids both shared this bed for a few nights (we were demoted to the original mattresses) and they slept incredibly well! It didn’t deflate at any point like some mattresses do a bit after use!
This bed isn’t just for camping, in fact, many people use it for a spare bed at home for any guests. Often do we panic friends and family have nowhere to sleep but this solves that issue. Obviously you need floor space but we can fit in in the lounge (just). If guests are staying for more than one night, it is so fast to inflate and deflate that it won’t get in the way of your daily activities. It deflates down into a size small enough to place into the carry bag (which is provided with the mattress) so it won’t take up much room at home or in your car/or person for camping.
It features a 2-in-1 built-in motor that inflates and deflates the bed in just 5 minutes.
As their website states, the product information is as follows:
