Interview: French Singer/Songwriter/Multi Instrumentalist Kevin Davy White talks Debut UK Headline Tour, Debut Album ‘Keep Dreaming Wild’, his Guitars and more!

Kevin Davy White is probably one of the most exciting artists in the music industry right now! An independent artist with an array of talent, the French born singer/songwriter has just released his debut album Keep Dreaming Wild. (Listen on Spotify, Apple Music , Amazon.

Written, played, recorded, mixed, produced and mastered by White, the album hosts a blend of rock, blues, and soul and is wonderfully addictive to listen to, in fact, the album is so well crafted that it will appeal to fans of any genre.

If you think his music is good, then that’s just the start of his talents. White is an exceptional performer and is about to embark on his first ever headliner tour where he will be accompanied by a full band. A ‘not to miss tour’, tickets are only £12 each – this is an amazing opportunity to see a master of his craft in small venues before he starts playing to bigger crowds. We would personally love to see Kevin play at places such as BST Hyde Park where we know he will be fully embraced. We intend to follow his career closely as we expect great things.

Some may be familiar with Kevin Davy White from his epic and brilliantly professional performances on the X Factor back in 2017. Rocking the stage every night, Davy White came 3rd in the competition.

As well as the UK X Factor, Kevin has appeared on the French edition of The Voice and has released a number of EPs, toured the world as well as his previously mentioned debut album Keep Dreaming Wild.

We caught up with Kevin to discuss the album and tour! We hope you enjoy it!

Hi/Bonjour Kevin – Comment Vas-Tu? How are you?

Oh la la, bonjour Hannah, it’s very nice of you to greet me in my mother tongue.

How has your week been?

My week has been great so far. I’m writing new material for my next album. I love the process and the discovery of my craft.

Did you have a nice Christmas?

Oh yes, I did. I took a break for my mental health. Did nothing except being present with my family. It was great.

You have recently announced your first headline tour – that must be very exciting! What can you tell us about it?

Yes, I am very excited. It’s the chance to show my show closer to my fans around the UK. I am working on a very great show. I’m making sure that the people who come to the show will be lost in music and forget about the rest for an evening.

Where can people see you?

I’ll be standing Giving free hugs in Newcastle (@ Think Thank), Glasgow (@ Poetry Club ), London (@ The Grace) and Manchester (@ Gullivers) then I’ll rock their soul out.

Have you started prepping for it already?

Oh yes, I have a couple new members in the band. A female drummer!!!

Oh that’s cool! Who else will be bringing along band wise?

As I told you, A female Drummer !!! Haha I love it. I always found that women drummers are so cool. A bass player and second guitar player from Italy.

It’s going to be insane!!! I remember seeing you on X Factor and the level of professionalism and live music talent was crazy!!!

Oh thank you very much. I really work hard to deliver a great experience whenever I play.

So I have been listening to your album ‘Keep Dreaming Wild’ and am loving it! It’s so energetic and lyrically and sonically glorious! Can you tell us a bit about the album please?

I am so pleased that you love it! It is a special album to me of course. My first one! I was very inspired. Trying to bring all my roots and favourite genres into this album. It has been so much fun making it. It carries my journey through life and struggles – my inspiration from people’s stories that I’ve met along the way and every time deep down we all have dreams that make us thrive as a person, gives us purpose and challenges our inner self.

You worked on this album yourself which is amazing and the hard work has paid off as it’s brilliantly put together. The instrumentation alone is phenomenal!

Yes, that was also a reason why the Album was so much fun making it. I had free will, learned all the instruments that I needed for the album. Drum, bass, guitars, backing vocal, synth etc.
Then as the modern age we have this luxury of having the very affordable technology to mix and master song. As long you follow the I of professionals, You just do it and experiment in the sound.

What song was the biggest challenge to write or took the longest?

Roots was definitely the longest. It took me years to have the final version. So many genres inside one song. It was tricky to keep it tight and understandable for everyone. But when I finally finished it, I was so happy because it really brings everyone from the lyrics to the sound.

Can we expect a lot of the album on tour?

Oh yes, that was just the beginning. It is a Lot of work but when it’s a passion… I don’t think I need to use that cliché line. You got me.

What else can you share with us about the tour?

I have done a lot of shows in the past and festivals. This will help bring all the best part into one show. It’s going to be fun. I can’t wait to play for you all.

How long have you been playing the guitar?

Oh 18 years now. I still have a long journey.

How many guitars do you tend to take on tour with you and which ones (I ask this like I know anything about guitars which I don’t but I am still interested)

Haha, I will bring my wives, as I usually say.
Chocolate (acoustic guitar) Victorine (Electric guitar) Nala (Another electric guitar) that is enough to rock the stage. I don’t need more
.

Which one is your favourite guitar?

My favourite is Victorine. It’s a Yamaha guitar, very flexible in sounds. And my dream guitar would be a James Trusart guitar. Oh la la.

What was your first guitar?

Haha her name was Lovalova. It was Squier Fender – all black.

Can you play any other instruments?

Thanks to this album yes as you know now.

Is there an instrument you don’t play but have always wanted to learn how to play?

The Sexophone (Saxophone) I will definitely buy one and learn it. I find this instrument so cool and sexy.

Tomorrow and Roots are fast favourite songs for me on the album so far- funnily enough, they actually remind me of summers in France! My family lived and my sister and her family still live there en Bretagne (Malestroit, Josselin, Ploërmel!) We spent many evenings at concerts in France, I can’t remember many artists now as was many years ago but there is so much love for your sound in France in my personal opinion! Do you get to play there at all?

Oh Wow. Thank you for sharing this. It warmed my heart. Bretagne it’s a very lovely part of France. It always intrigued me. France and my music have not yet merged. I’m more “known” in the English World. Sad, because I can totally hear Tomorrow and Roots over there. It will come.

Places with No Name is another favourite- what can you tell us about that please?

This song has a special meaning to me. I got inspired when I was dating my wife in the early days. We were in London. That crazy busy town but it was like no one were there.
The noise was so quiet and the crowded places were so empty. We were just belonging to our moments.

Can you tell us a bit about where you lived in France? I really only know Bretagne well (and Disneyland Paris haha)

Hahah Disney, I have also good memories there. I was born in Ile-de-France. I grew up there and then made my journey to England with the lot back and forth.

Do you speak any other languages?

I can speak Spanish. Roughly I insist. Ha-ha.

What song is a family favourite?

wow A family favourite. Hard one. Ntoman by Africando. I choose this song. Because I have beautiful memories of my family dancing to this songevery Christmas eve. A treasure.

What else have you planned for this year?

I’m focusing on writing new songs for my new (second) album and preparing for my tour as well. You can also expect new releases. So lots of exciting stuff.
