The Long Road Festival 2023: The War and Treaty – Live Review

How do you describe a show from The War and Treaty? This is a question that I asked myself several times on Sunday after seeing them on The Interstate Stage at The Long Road Festival!

When a show is that good, you know it is hard to do it the justice that it deserves. If you were lucky enough to be in the audience, then you likely felt the same way. If you weren’t in the audience then I highly recommend that you catch them at the Omeara in London on September 1st as it will be an incredibly special show and likely the last opportunity to see them in a small setting!

The War and Treaty only had a set of 45 minutes at The Long Road which of course, is about standard for a festival slot but it wasn’t enough!

The Interstate Stage was absolutely packed and the moment Michael and Tanya took to the stage the crowd cheered for what seemed like five minutes. It was certainly a warm welcome and then some!

Soulful and energetic from the get go, The War and Treaty brought a vibe so inviting that you felt like you wanted to stay in their company forever!

The build ups in the songs, my goodness!! The War and Treaty’s music is made for the live settings. You find yourself getting completely lost in their music and it’s as if you are living an entirely different existence.

The musicianship, the vocals, everything was so raw and authentic and truly exceptional!

You could really feel the sound of the keys intro to Blank Page. Yesterday’s Burn gave us a real gospel, country vibe the vocal and instrumental extensions of the songs were insanely good!

The War and Treaty received standing ovations and rapturous applause throughout that just went on and on. The love and appreciation from the audience was beautiful!

We were taken to Church, we were taken to Nashville and we were taken to a place that we didn’t want to come back from! Those 45 minutes went by so fast that it felt like a crime that it was over!

The entire set was just so passionate, theatric, emotive and soulful!

The day had started out windy and miserable and I felt exhausted but Michael and Tanya brought the sunshine and woke everybody up which made the rest of the day a joyous one!

Michael and Tanya kindly gave us here at Building Our Own Nashville a shout out! Understanding the meaning behind our name, they were in agreement that that is exactly what we are doing here in the UK and that it’s a beautiful thing! We really have built our own Nashville here in the UK and we continue to build that and we hope that The War and Treaty will always be a part of that here too by making the UK like a second home!
