BST Hyde Park: P!nk (Pink) – Live Review

I became a new P!nk mega fan after Saturday 24th June. It’s amazing how live music can do that! I always enjoyed her music but live, well she is something else!

P!nk sold out two days at BST Hyde Park in London for her Summer Carnival tour. A huge back catalogue of hits, going to see P!nk live is always likely going to be a fun experience!

P!nk has always been cited as one of the most incredible and energetic performers going and of course, her aerial gymnastics are legendary!

Many of us had a bit of doubt that the aerial gymnastics part of the show would happen at Hyde Park. Where would the wires be attached to? That doubt was put to rest as soon as we entered the busy gates of BST Hyde Park and saw four large cranes set up around the stage! Excitement then kicked in!

Saturday 24th June was the busiest I have ever seen BST Hyde Park, fans were queuing in the hot sun, hours before the gates opened so that they could secure the best spot by the stage and the catwalk.

It was beautiful to see the amount of hardcore fans there were. As someone who attends a lot of shows, this was definitely a community! Everyone was on a high and just so happy to be there in such a way that it almost seemed celebratory.

The stage set up on the Great Oak Stage was incredible to see. A large catwalk and the previously mentioned cranes with the wiring gave fans a good indication of where to stand to be as close to her as they could.

The day was scorching! But that didn’t deter anyone! The atmosphere was starting to really kick in just moments before the screens lit up with a simulation of P!nk.

An insane amount of cheering and applause, Pink and her team of dancers and band members took to the stage with Get The Party Started. Not being too close to the front and looking at the screen at this point, I couldn’t work out where she was!! I should have known of course, she was at the top of the stage full on aerial gymnastics style and immediately I, along with crowd were completely in awe! I have heard of her greatness on stage but there aren’t really words to describe it!

Raise Your Glass was a moment of unity! The fan in me came out in full force for this song! The party was just getting started and already we felt that it was worth every penny it cost us to get there!

Hit after hit, Pink kept the crowd alive with Who Knew, Just Like A Pill, Try and What About Us.

Pink’s songs aren’t just catchy, they are well written, brilliantly produced and Pink’s vocals live are just insane! Singing whilst doing summersalts is a heck of a skill!

Turbulence was a highlight for us. That song was already beautiful but watching and hearing it live whilst performing an aerial stunt alongside a partner was one of the most breathtaking things I have ever seen. Gracefully intertwined, the pair were sensational!

Pink was great with the crowd. Fans can correct me here if I am wrong, but it seemed there’s a tradition where fans throw gifts onto the stage for her. Especially frogs! Grateful for every item and acknowledging every fan who gave her a gift, this showed the humble side of Pink that I never knew about! In fact I knew very little of her so this show was a wonderful introduction to Pink as a person! (I wonder what happened to the giant wheel of cheese?)

Taking to the piano, she performed a stunning version of Dylan’s Make You Feel My Love!

Just Give Me a Reason was another highlight as it is one of my favourite songs of hers. Nate Ruess didn’t make a physical appearance but was there on the screen. I was kind of glad she didn’t replace his part for live show purposes but it would have been amazing for him to have been there in person!

Cover Me In Sunshine brought a surprise appearance from her daughter Willow Sage Hart. She sung the song so flawlessly and it was a very sweet moment!

Kids In Love gave us the first country music vibes of the night. A song written by and featuring First Aid Kit, (that would explain the folk/country edge to it!) It was a gorgeous song live and it really showcased just how much of a powerhouse and diverse singer Pink really is!

This was followed by the sensational and country music sounding When I Get There! A song dedicated to her father, it was truly emotive. Pink pointed to her face saying her dad is the reason she is this… someone shouted “gorgeous” and Pink jokingly repeated“gorgeous, I don’t mean that, I mean goofy and I like to fight, also he did that a lot, and I miss him but I feel like it’s a suitcase I’ll be unpacking for the rest of my life. This song came to me around that time and I want to dedicate it to you and Michelle”, she says to an audience member. “I read your letter and I’m going to make that happen ok? I’m really sorry for what you’re going through and my heart is wrapped around yours ok? And hers and her family”

The performance was perfection! This song was already sensational but live it gave us even more raw emotion and was a truly powerful moment! This is undoubtedly one of the best songs she has ever released and having it soar (much like Pink did literally many times) throughout Hyde Park was something else!

The energy arose again for the final segment of the show! Songs such as TRUSTFALL, Blow Me (One Last Kiss), Never Not Gonna Dance Again and Last Call just got the crowd even more highly motivated and engaged!

Closing with So What! Pink said “I am going to come and see you at the back” and with that she was attached to a harness for the last time and soared throughout hyde park doing summersalt after summersalt and still singing!!! She moved so fast it was enough to make you dizzy! How mind blowing to be able to do that!! What a skill! What a talent!!!

There is so much that I have left out because a lot of it is somewhat of a blur. I mean that in the best way! I can barely remember the songs she used the ariel dynamics in as I was just so mesmerised!

The performances on stage and along the catwalk were also highly impressive! Her dancers were phenomenal and she even had dancers bouncing off trampolines on to platforms/stairs. (There is probably a descriptive word for this).

The band were electrifying and quite simply brilliant!

Pink is worth going to see whether you are a fan or not! Her shows are like no one else’s . You get everything with a Pink show! I can’t wait to take my children one day!

The entire show was just so fascinating that I can barely form words to quite give the justice it deserves.

The Summer Carnival was a captivating masterpiece full of energetic performances, astonishing aerial gymnastics, outstanding vocals and delightful crowd engaged moments!

A fan on my train right now just said to a friend on the phone “the best concert you’ll ever see mate!” And she is right!
