As fans of songwriters, it wouldn’t be right to not talk about the fantastic band that is Pearl Jam. Despite us mainly being a Country Music based website, it should go without saying that the songwriting talents of Pearl Jam have influenced many a country/americana act. When you look at country music these days, it has so many sub genres and the biggest and most loved part of the genre is the lyric.
Eddie Vedder frontman of Pearl Jam has often collaborated with the odd country artist whether that be on stage or on song and one to be noted is his stage collaboration with Lukas Nelson. With both Pearl Jam members and Lukas having worked with Neil Young, the pair have done live covers of the legendary artist as well as Lukas joining PJ on Pearl Jam songs such as Just Breathe.
A song that deserves so much more recognition and showcases the closeness that the rock bands music is to country lyric wise, this song was later covered and released by Lukas Nelson and his father Willie Nelson. A wonderful video accompanied it.
Pearl Jam are one of the greatest live acts in the world. A set list that is never the same, this band do not disappoint and it is no wonder that their headline show at BST Hyde Park is sold out. Pearl Jam are no strangers to Hyde Park as have previously played Hard Rock Calling.
Bst Hyde Park is a great place to catch live music and to simply have a good day/evening out as there are loads of acts to see and so much to do.
Pearl Jam are joined by special guests Pixies and White Reaper with more to be announced. With BST being incredibly supportive of Country and Americana music in the past, lets hope we have some artists on the line up this year. I for one can think of many who would go down very well with the Pearl Jam crowd. One obvious one being Lukas Nelson and Promise of The Real and others such as The White Buffalo whose voice has a slight Eddie Vedder way about it. Another artist who would be a great addition would be Ryan Kinder. Ryan Kinder played BST in 2018 supporting Eric Clapton and his live shows are absolutely incredibly and very rockin’. If you love a good rock voice then Ryan Kinder is your man.
Pearl Jam’s sell out show is on Friday July 10th 2020 and we simply cannot wait. Pearl Jam have a new album coming out soon titled Gigaton and should be released in Spring.
Formed in Seattle in 1990, Pearl Jam were one of the pioneers of the alternative rock movement that changed music forever. Lead by the superstar frontman Eddie Vedder, their breakout debut album Ten, released in 1991, had a lasting impact on the scene, achieving the group mainstream success. They’ve inspired countless bands with their hits, including ‘Black’, ‘Jeremy’, ‘ Alive’ and ‘Rearviewmirror’.
They’ve also been hugely commercially successful with more than 85 million albums sold worldwide and they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2017, which was their first year of eligibility.
Since 1990, they have cultivated a reputation for being one of the most incredible live acts of all time. From the very first time they performed in front of a live audience at the Off Ramp, Seattle in 1990, right up to today, they have set a bar of excellence that few are able to surpass. Rolling Stone listed them as one of the ‘Top Ten Live Acts Of All Time’ in its readers’ poll in 2011. Last year, the band performed two nights at the O2 Arena in London to rave reviews, with Classic Rock calling their last London show an “astonishing end-of-tour blow out”.
Releasing their tenth studio album ‘Lightning Bolt’ in 2013, 2020 marks 30 years since the band’s formation and Hyde Park is going to be one hell of a celebration.

About Hyde Park:
Every year millions of visitors from London, the UK and across the globe enjoy the iconic Hyde Park, one of the capital’s eight Royal Parks. Spanning 350 acres of green space in central London, Hyde Park has hosted world-renowned music artists since the 1960s. The summer concerts are an essential part of income generation for The Royal Parks, providing necessary funds to maintain and develop the parks for future generations to enjoy. They also help support the diverse culture of London and introduce new audiences to the parks.
About The Royal Parks:
The Royal Parks is the charity that exists to make sure London’s eight historic royal parks will always be there to enrich the lives of local residents and visitors to London.
This recently-created charity does this by:
● Sensitively and sustainably protecting and conserving the heritage landscapes of the parks
● Adding value to every visit by providing information and opportunities to find out more about the historic significance of the parks and the wildlife that lives in them today
● Supporting and encouraging the development of biodiversity in the parks
● Encouraging visitors to support their physical and mental health by using the parks for relaxation and exercise
It costs £40m a year to manage the parks. The charity raises around 75 per cent of this money itself, with the remaining 25 per cent coming from Government.
