The 10th September was absolutely not just another Tuesday at the O2 Institute in Birmingham, UK.
Fresh off The Sun Goes Down tour where she supported country music legend, Kenny Chesney, Megan Moroney hot footed it over to the UK to start her Georgia Girl tour.
Chesney has taken a few up-and-coming stars under his wing, most recently sharing a love of their hometown with Kelsea Ballerini who also supported him on his tour last year – maybe a Kenny Chesney tour is the secret to climbing the ranks in country music? Both Ballerini and Moroney have gone form strength to strength, no doubt soaking up the experience, knowledge and mentorship of a seasoned professional like Kenny Chesney.
The unmistakable opening riffs of ‘Lucky’ – the titular track of her 2023 album – saw the 2000+ crowd erupt into screams as Moroney appeared under the backdrop of her name. Her signature wave and a “how are we doing Birmingham” was just enough to get the show started.
Followed by ‘Lucky’ and ‘Sleep On My Side’, Moroney’s fans were in full swing and not missing a beat.
‘No Caller ID’ was the first track she played off her 2024 album, ‘Am I Okay’, with the stage lighting switching from green to blue to match each era, her sparkly guitar and mic stand matching the glitter in her voice[?]
‘I Know You’, a song that we all knew through her social media clips before she had even released it was followed by ‘Noah’, with Moroney introducing as, “99% of my songs are about real life experiences but this one is about a guy a met twice and thought he deserved a song”.
Songs from her new album were interspersed with the fan favourites, including those from back in the beginning like, ‘Wonder’ and ‘Hair Salon’.
There may well have been the opening to ‘Georgia On My Mind’ but it was over before we caught it and she was into the eponymous ‘Georgia Girl’.
Unfortunately, the song was cut short due to a medical issue in the crowd. Moroney spotted it, stopped the show – a slick process in itself – and called on security to help. She stood back, removed her guitar and informed the crowd she would not be restarting until she got a thumbs up from the team.
Lifting the tempo and the atmosphere, Moroney jumped in to ‘Man On The Moon’ with the iconic opening line, Houston he’s a problem – a line that she used to collaborate with one of her favourite clothing brands and podcast, Boys Lie, and we love her even more for it.
“It’s definitely not the 28th of June,” she said as she introduced the song while she sat on the steps of the stage.

Another unfortunate moment of the night was when Moroney had to dodge a cap thrown by a fan – something that needs to be addressed as wider issue at concerts, with artists like Corey Kent and Morgan Wallen getting hit with items like mobile phones. Security was on it and Moroney had a special message for them as they were escorted out – it involved a certain finger and was well received by the rest of the crowd. Can we stop throwing things at artists on stage now?
‘Miss Universe’ brought with it her iconic bouquet of flowers wrapped in blue – obviously – which she gave away to a lucky fan at the end of the song.
“I didn’t write my first song until I was 18,” she said after she shared with us that she went to college to do accounting and so I therefore dub Megan Moroney a woman of STEM. As a fellow STEM ambassador, I’d like to rebrand it to Science, Technology, Engineering and Megan Moroney. You’re welcome.
“There wasn’t a line out the door to hear me play Kacey Musgraves covers,” she said as she regaled us with her stories from starting out, her endearing personality carrying through the venue.
‘Indifferent’ is to Megan Moroney what ‘Before He Cheats’ is to Carrie Underwood. If you’ve ever been to a bar when ‘Before He Cheats’ is played, you’ll know that the women in the room unite and they “angry sing” all the words. Well, let me tell you, ‘Indifferent’ is the new empowered girl anthem. The energy during the added “no” in the chorus was electric.
With the stage flooded orange, there was only one song that could come next – ‘Tennessee Orange’ – the track that saw Moroney soar to new heights of fame last year and catapulted her onto everyone’s playlists. She had the whole crowd swaying, soaking up every word. That may be the moment most were waiting for.
With no encore, Moroney jumped back in for one more number, the title track of her 2024 album, ‘Am I Okay?’.
Fingers to her neck, as is the image on her album cover, Moroney checked her pulse, and her heart was still beating. Although, I’d imagine heartrates were high as fans went wild for the anthemic final number.
Megan Moroney has announced her ‘Am I Okay?’ tour over in the US, so we can only hope that she’ll come back and visit sometime soon.
